DIY Scarecrow bottle - Fall Decor - Upcycle + Recycle

 

I love to bring my grandmother homemade gifts whenever we go to visit her. I also love to be at her house and to be able to look around and see all of these DIY memories I have made and get to share with her. <3 

 

This DIY is so simple. I took an empty wine bottle, painted it a light brown/tan color. While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I cut a piece of foam board to look like a donut that would fit around the top of the bottle, to make the hat. I hot glued some fake straw that I purchased at the local dollar store, around the neck of the bottle as the scarecrows hair. Following that step, I took twine and used my hot glue gun to glue it to the foam donut. When I was finished doing that, I slid the foam donut over the top of the bottle and pushed it down as far as I possibly could. I then took more twine and glued it to the top of the bottle to finish off the look of the hat. I had a roll of rhinestone ribbon that I used as the top of the hat. However, you could easily finish it off with twine, or any other kind of ribbon. I then took some more fake straw and glued it to the base of the bottle, with the loose ends pointing up, before I glued some twine around the bottom of the bottle, and used some more of the rhinestone ribbon around the base; symbolizing his shirt. I added a fun twine bow, just to be cute. My last step was the scarecrows face. I used Halloween googly eyes from the Dollar Tree, and painted on the rest of his face, using pink, orange and black paint. The fun part about his face is that you can be so creative and make any kind of face you want to. I did a simple happy face because after all this is a gift for my 90 year old grandmother.

DIY: Turkey Wreath

I have been OBSESSED with tulle lately! So while I was walking through Hobby Lobby looking for some fun stuff I came across all of the different types and colors of tulle! I immediately picked up orange, yellow, and red because its close to Thanksgiving time, also with fall being my favorite season, I just love these fun fall colors! I wanted to make a fun Thanksgiving wreath and I was planning on doing a full tulle wreath with random fake leaves all over, but when I saw this brown pre-made wreath, a turkey popped into my head! I have seen a few turkey wreaths here and there, but nothing that I really really liked. I love the look of these brown twig wreaths because they are so natural and rustic! I also bought giant googly eyes and two Styrofoam floral cones.I bought enough supplied to make two turkey wreaths. Because as I stated in an earlier post, I almost always make my parents a version of each crafting project I do!

HERE ARE THE SUPPLIES I USED:

yellow tulle

orange tulle

red tulle

maroon tulle

googly eyes

Styrofoam floral cone

twig wreath

hot glue gun + glue

 

 This project is SO easy!

Step one: cut a ton of foot long pieces of different colored tulle

Step two:  tie pieces of tulle around the wreath leaving some of the bottom of the wreath showing (refer to final picture below for some guidance)

Step three: after all your tulle is tied on, wrap some yellow tulle around the floral cone and secure with hot glue. This is the beak! Use hot glue to glue the beak on. Cut a piece of maroon or red tulle (about 5 inches long) and tie a not on each end. Glue over the beak. (again refer to the final picture below if needed) 

Step four: glue on googly eyes, fluff the turkeys feathers (tulle) if needed!

TAH-DAH! 

Your turkey wreath is complete!

I made two of these wreaths in just under 2 hours.

So I'd easily say about an hour per wreath. 

My parents absolutely loved their and James and I love ours!

They are so easy and so fun! (and not expensive to make either!)

We have gotten so many compliments on it when we have company, and I cant wait until next year to make more to give away!

Okay Fall.. go away now.

Fall is my favorite season of the year. I love the smell of fall. I love the colors of fall. I love hot chocolate, scarves, sweaters, hay rides, hot cider, pumpkins, scarecrows and bon-fires. I love everything about fall. 

Until now... haha!

The leaves from our trees have ruined this season!

Okay. Okay. So I still love fall. 

I am just a little bitter and aggravated, because it took me forever to blow, rake and pile up the leaves. And the next day... there were even more all over the ground!

I was just trying to do a nice gesture and surprise James when he got home from work. He was happy and surprised but I was exhausted and grumpy from being so annoyed with the leaves. HAHA!

 

Okay. End rant. ☺

Fall <3

Eeeekk!! 

My first caramel apple of the season!!!! I absolutely love caramel apples, however I only eat them in the fall because 1. Its a fall food (at least to me) and 2. It gives me a treat to look forward to in the fall! This was so sweet and juicy and perfect! Haha I just had to share it!

Yummy Tummy Pumpkin Seeds

One of my favorite parts of fall + Halloween is eating the seeds after the carving of the pumpkin is done! 

For these seeds, I melted a spoonful of butter + brushed it on, quickly coating each seed.

Then I sprinkled garlic powder + salt on them.

I popped them in the oven at 250 degrees for about an hour + TAH-DAH!!

Delicious! 

DIY Fall Center Piece

Hey Y'all!

We have a bay window and I love putting fun holiday decorations on the window sill. However, I realized that we don't have a fall decoration. So while James was out, I went to Hobby Lobby, and bought a fake carve-able pumpkin, and some beautiful fake fall colored flowers. I simply traced a red solo cup around the stem of the pumpkin, and just dropped the cup into the hole. Then I placed a small Styrofoam square into the bottom of the cup and started to place my flowers.

 

  

YES! It really is that easy!

Here is what the final product looked like!

I was so in love with how it turned out, I went back and made 2 more for my parents dining room table, and for my Grandma for her birthday.
