Baby Shower Title Buttons - DIY

With our baby shower coming soon, I wanted to throw together some fun buttons for the parents to be and grandparents to be to wear. I did not want to spend a lot of money on them though, because they are only going to be worn during the shower. So of course, I hopped into my car and went to the Dollar Tree and Walmart!

I purchased:
tan colored label stickers (Dollar Tree)
gold glitter alphabet stickers (Walmart)
ribbon (7 different colors and styles) (Walmart)
pin backings (Walmart)

I also used my hot glue gun and glue sticks that I already had around the house. I also used some leftover gold glitter and pink camo scrapbook paper that I purchased from Hobby Lobby to use for the  Pedicure Spa Jar that I made for baby shower game prizes!

here is a closer look at the ribbon styles and colors I used

I took white paper and used the gold alphabet stickers to write out:

Mommy
Daddy
Grandma (2 times)
Great Grandma (3 times)

I then cut those out and glued them onto the tan colored label stickers from the dollar store.

I peeled off those stickers and stuck them to the pink camo scrapbook paper.  I took scissors and cut those out, trying to match the shape of the sticker the best that I could, with leaving a fun pink camo border around the sticker.

I did the same exact thing all over again, but I glued the cut outs to the gold glitter scrapbook paper this time. I took my scissors and cut them out, again, trying to match the original shape as best as I could.

I then took my ribbons and cut them into various different sizes (2 pieces the same size of each ribbon style and color) I took my hot glue gun and started gluing the ribbons together at the top.

When the ribbons were all glued together, I used a dot of hot glue to attache the name tags I made to each set of ribbons. I also glued on a pin backing just above the glued on ribbons.

I let the glue dry for a few minutes, and then I flipped over the button to look at the pretty front of it, and I took my scissors to trim and shape each ribbon to make them look good together.

Here is the final product:

I am so excited to give them out on the day of the shower, and then be able to scrapbook ours afterwards!

If you make a version of these yourself, please share a picture of them in the comments below, or tag them on Instagram using #CreatingVirginiaAnne

I would love to see your creations!

DAY 12: Homemade Christmas Cards!

Hello!

Christmas is almost here... scary as that sounds (because it came up so fast!) But because its the truth, I decided this year to make all of my Christmas cards that I give away and send out! I made four different types and just had fun with them really!!

The first type that I made was family cards. I didn't make them for ALL of the families that I know but for a few. These ones were the most work and took the longest. I used white buttons for the snowmen, red Santa hat stickers for the boys, and made cute little bows for the female snowmen out of gold wired ribbon. I used blue construction paper for the background and added some snowflakes. I drew the arms with a black sharpie, that I also wrote the names out with.

The second and third types of cards that I made this year were so EASY!! and they took the least amount of time. The button ornaments! For some cards I used felt buttons and some I used real buttons, in the colors red and green of course! I glued them onto white card stock, then took my trusty black sharpie and drew the string, cap, and bow! SO EASY! (and cute too!)

The last type of Christmas card that I made this year was inspired by my lovely husband James. I had a vision, and he helped me find all the supplies, and he made my idea even better! (hes amazing!) I used colored brads, (I think they look like mini ornaments) I used the brads to pin some thin green ribbon in a zigzag shape onto some white card stock and it looked like a tree. So I stuck on a glittery gold foam star sticker and drew a tree truck with a brown sharpie! (finally my brown sharpie got used! Poor guy rarely gets used for anything!)

For all of the cards I made this year, I used Christmas themed and colored scrapbook paper as the cards and bought a few packs of plain white envelopes. Here is a picture of each type of card I made:

Here are a few of the ways that I addressed the envelopes. I understand that the pictures are not top quality, and they look dumb. But I took them with my cellphone, and I had to blur out some names and addresses. These pictures are just to give you an example of how I wrote out names.

For couples, I did a curved line across the entire envelope. Then wrote their names on top of the line, and their address below.
I put our return address in the bottom left corner.

For some families I did a large first initial, then wrote their names in black as you can see below.
Then their address below that, and our return address in the top left corner.

For husband and wives, I wrote the last name big in red and green and "Mr + Mrs {name} small above that, then simply just wrote the address below.

Here is a clumped up sum of some of the different styles of addressing envelopes that I did.

These cards and envelopes were a TON of fun! And they were so easy and quick! I always have a blast crafting up a fun card, and sharing them with the people I love.

Christmas is on its way!

Grandmas Buttons - A little piece of Grandma

My Uncle has been going through my grandmothers things, and sending some of it my way.
He sent gave me all of her buttons!
When I get things of hers I try to think up fun and creative craft ideas to give to people who really knew and loved her. Like my brothers.

My oldest brother, Dan, drinks wine, loves wine, collects win, displays wine. So I thought
OH! A WINE GLASS!

I laid it all out and began gluing!

I know its not perfect, and it honestly looks better in person (at least I think so) and I really think my brother really likes it!

My other older brother, Jeff,  is a hunter, an adventurous outdoors man, and a nature lover.
I found a clip art of a buck and tried my best to recreate it and shape it. I personally think I did a pretty good job. But a part of crafting is making things from the heart and whether they look perfect or not, they still are.

The best part of these pieces are that they have a very special meaning to all of us. Our grandma had bought these buttons, had these buttons and handled these buttons for who knows how many years. And now they are being displayed in our homes as a way to remind us of her, and now we have a piece of her always with us.

Grandmas Button Trees

My Uncle has been slowly sorting through all of my Grandmas things, and every once in a while he will give me a box of crafting stuff to take home. My most recent box was FULL of buttons! and I mean FULL! As soon as I got home I had to sit down and go through every single button, of course!

I had fun picking out a handful of my favorite buttons. While I was going through all of them, I really wanted to put some aside to craft with right away. To make something for my Uncle, as a way to thank him for giving me these things, and not just throwing them away! I also wanted to  make something for my momma, and my aunt to have another little piece of my grandma. So I did just that!

I put aside a few handfuls of fun mixtures of buttons and gathered some wire that I had in my craft room. I also had a few of the mini planting pots lying around! (and the gem stones too!) I started to wire the buttons, then twist all of the wires together to look like branches, I was originally going for a bouquet look, but discovered the tree form shortly into the start of this project.

After the wires were all twisted together, I thought they looked cool like roots and branches all twisted and tied together. I was happy with the turn out of it! That is when the potting and gem stones came into my mind. So I let my glue gun heat up and got to gluing!

I ended up making 4 button trees, one for my mom, my uncle, my aunt and myself. I had a blast making them as well! So easy and fun!

My Uncle, mom and Aunt just loved these thoughtful little gifts. I know they are not much but they mean something to us because they are made with my grandmas buttons.

A little piece of Grandma always and forever.
